Bishopstoke Carnival - yay!

We will be at the famous Bishopstoke Carnival on Saturday, in the Glebe Meadow with our Greening stand and activites for children and adults. Come along and say 'Hello'

August 2024 - We made a wonderful start to the community garden at S Paul's church. It was absolutely amazing what we achieved in only 3 hours! We made raised beds and planted a veggie plot, built 2 compost bins, installed a water butt, tidied a rose bed, made a bug hotel and created the start of a pollinator patch. What a team!

There will be more days of garden action to come and we have a very exciting plan for the pollinator patch. If you would like to be involved, leave a note on 'Let's chat' and we will tell you about the next event. Go and take a look!

Look out for our upcoming 'Compost' event on Saturday 21st September....

Swift Awareness week 29th June to 7th July 2024

We are lucky to have Swifts as a summer visitor in Bishopstoke, you can hear them calling and see them flying around now!

Do you know where they are nesting here in Bishopstoke? We would love to hear if you have seen a nesting place.

  • They come back every year returning from Africa
  • They eat, drink and sleep on the wing
  • They are the fastest birds, flying horizontally, in the UK
  • They feed on small flying insects
  • They pair and breed for life
  • They only stop to incubate the pear-shaped eggs, a job they share
  • Nests are high up so they can fly straight from the nest
  • Their numbers are significantly declining due to reduced nesting sites

Help us save this amazing bird and put up a swift box on your house.

For more information about boxes go to Hampshire Swifts www.hampshireswifts.co.uk
