My name is Diane and I volunteer at the Eastleigh Community Garden behind the Salvation Army, lead by Tina. She mentioned that there is a garden being started up in Bishopstoke, and I wanted to learn more, as I am a resident. Let me know how I can help :)

The Cycle of the Seed Pillar π±
We invite you to join our efforts in the 'Cycle of the Seed' pillar, aimed at encouraging our local community to grow their own food and understand the benefits of sharing produce. Food is a basic need, and with 5.4 million people in the UK experiencing food insecurity, it's more important than ever to take action.
By growing some of our own produce, we can:
Save Money: Reduce grocery bills by harvesting your own crops. π·
Improve Health & Wellbeing: Enjoy the physical and mental benefits of gardening and sharing experiences with neighbours. β₯
Learn New Skills: Gain valuable knowledge on food growing, build confidence in sowing seeds, and learn to harvest your own produce. π«
Growing our own food helps address food security, cope with climate change, and raises awareness of our dependence on the global food supply chain. It also promotes biodiversity in our community through natural gardening methods.
By increasing biodiversity, we support pollinators and reduce plant pests in our area. We can also lower CO2 emissions by reducing food transport miles, reconnecting with natural systems, and using organic methods with guidance from an expert from Garden Organic. πΎ
Throughout the year, we'll explore various growing methods, focus on soil health to provide essential nutrients, protect root systems from temperature fluctuations, and reduce waste through organic composting. π
We believe everyone can grow food, even on a windowsill! Join us at the launch event to learn how you can help combat climate change and make a positive impact in our community. π Greening Bishopstoke

Join us for the launch of the 'Greening Bishopstoke' Campaign! πΏ We're excited to share our focus on five key areas (pillars), including Health & Wellbeing. Discover how we can all contribute to a healthier, greener community. Come along this Saturday to learn more and get involved. We can't wait to see you there!
Health & Wellbeing ππΊπ€½πΌββοΈπ΄πΏββοΈπββοΈπ€ΎπΌββοΈ
Over the coming year, the 5 Pillars will be working together with the Bishopstoke community to improve our health and wellbeing. We invite everyone to get involved and make a positive impact!
Reducing Fossil Fuel Use: β‘οΈ
The fossil fuels we use release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which can harm our health, both physically and mentally. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we can protect the health of both young and old.
Waste Management: β»οΈ
By focusing on reducing, reusing, and recycling, we can decrease the amount of waste that goes into landfill. This helps lower greenhouse gas emissions, which can cause respiratory problems, asthma, cardiovascular issues, and even death.
Growing Our Own Food:π₯
Growing our own food, where possible, can greatly enhance our wellbeing. It provides fresh produce and a rewarding outdoor activity.
Home Insulation:π‘
As summers become hotter, proper home insulation is crucial. Extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially in the young and elderly. Keeping curtains and blinds closed and windows shut can help keep our homes cool.
Daily Walks: πΆπ»ββοΈ
Walking for 30 minutes each day, preferably in rural settings, can significantly benefit our health. Engage children in activities like identifying birds, butterflies, and trees, or keeping a nature diary through the seasons. Taking time to stop, look, and listen to nature will remind us of our beautiful planet and greatly enhance our mental and physical health.
Letβs come together as a community to support these initiatives and make Bishopstoke a healthier, greener place to live! π
